Hi everyone,

I’m planning a major home project and could really use some advice. I’ve been thinking about a kitchen renovation to improve both functionality and aesthetics.

My current layout feels cramped, and I’m unsure about the best materials for cabinets and countertops. Has anyone recently completed a kitchen renovation and can share insights on cost-effective upgrades or layout improvements?

I’m also curious about lighting, storage solutions, and modern appliance integration.

Any tips, mistakes to avoid, or design ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Think about where your robot vacuum will live. You might be able to locate it where it's base can be plumbed to not need you to fill the clean water container, and not need to empty the dirty water container. Your first robovac does not have to be hooked up, but if you leave provision for a connection for your second one, that would be good. The base units with that feature have a pump that injects drainage as a dishwasher would. You could put in a 4 inch or so toe kick on that wall , or just have the higher space where the robovac will be. The third photo of https://www.livingetc.com/advice/what-is-a-cabinet-toe-kick has spot for a robovac, but it fails to provide a toe kick area for the rest. You want toe kick space.

Consider a pot filler if going higher end. But that is not compatible with "cost-effective"

Post a sketch map of your space, and maybe have a couple initial thoughts for floor plans.
