Current project is installing a new drain for my shower. I have existing 2" copper drain line that ties into CI. The original plan was to install Schluter Kerdi PVC drain and Schluter Shower Floor. My questions are 1)would you cut the short(about 4.5") 2" copper pipe after the trap and install a Proflex coupler/band and then attach the PVC to the new drain? or 2) Cut copper pipe before the trap and attach the Proflex coupler and run new PVC pipe, PVC trap to the drain? Any input is appreciated

I'd just cut off some of the riser out of the trap and use a coupler to connect between the copper and PVC. But, if that riser wasn't plumb, I'd cut off the trap and install new from there to ensure things were perfectly plumb. With the large diameter of the Kerdi (and other, similar ones) drain, any small error in plumb will show up because of the large diameter. The couplers normally available at big-box stores won't work on copper-PVC...you will probably need to go to a supply store or order one on-line to get one the proper size. Those easily available work on PVC-PVC, the OD of copper is smaller, and you won't get a good seal unless you have the right one with differing ID's to fit.
