I broke my plastic toilet flange when I was trying to get rid of a wobbly toilet. I got a metal flange repair kit that is basically a half ring with 2 screw holes and a slot for the closet bolt. The metal ring with the installed closet bolt slides under the plastic flange. However to get the metal flange in place, I had to cut a notch in the plastic flange with a hack saw blade. While cutting the notch I also happened to put a saw kerf that extends almost to the sewer opening on the plastic flange.

Will the wax ring work OK at sealing the saw kerf?

Most likely yes.
Most newer toilets have a 2" trapway that drops into the 3" drain in the floor.
