Salt softener systems

I have a well thats been in place about 15 yrs. The water is pretty hard so i have a salt softener type setup.
My question is for about 3yrs it went without salt. Is there a way to re introduce salt to system and reverse damage to resin beads? Water is staining laundry and fixtures at this point. Any info is very appreciated
