Ruud P40-38 Vacation Setting

New poster here. Wondering what function the Vacation mode does on the temp. knob? Really would rather leave the pilot light lit while I am away for six months. Perhaps the Vacation setting keeps it lit but does not heat water??????? Thanks

That is exactly what it does. But in all honestly if no one is going to be there for six months I would turn off the gas and water to the tank and drain it. It would be real depressing to come back to a flood due to the water heater.
