Rusted tub drain with unusual six spoke design

Rusty cast iron tub drain with unusual six spoke design. How do I remove it?

Standard drain wrench has four spokes and won’t fit. T shaped removal tool with two spokes at one end has points too closely spaced to fit.

What is best approach for removal? Cut out the center and use extractor tool? Not sure I have a tool to cut those at such an awkward angle.

Insert the handle of a pair of pliers into two holes. Turn the pliers with an another set or channel locks.

Metal pipe would be easier but I used wood because it was for installing a new drain and I didn't want to damage the finish.
