Rust removal for irrigation

We have a well only, no city water... the water for the house goes through a softener system. The irrigation water does not. We aim the sprinklers as best as possible, but it is heavy rust so even trees get stained. What I'm not sure about is whether one of those rust removal systems for irrigation could be used, or does that only work when the well is exclusively for irrigation? They show them hooking up at the well... not sure exactly how this would work in our case... would it maybe hook up somewhere else along the path so that the additive laced irrigation water does not backflow? cpa accountant here... thanks!

Since you don't mention the system by name, I have no idea what it is or how it works. I have a traditional iron filter plumbed before the softener and Tee off after the iron filter but before the softener for irrigation. What happens is that the backwash schedule needs to factor the amount of water used for irrigation which varies otherwise it clumps up to the point where it won't backwash.

Might talk to the guy who makes the Sulfur Eliminator. Aeration in the well may also work to get rid of the rust color.

How quickly do the stains appear on the hardscape and such?

An example of the additive thing that many people down here use would be sprinklerite... they sell these things at home depot.. but I believe most of them don't use their well for their home... just irrigation.

I would say that staining would start after a couple of weeks of consistent watering.... this is some seriously hard water... Yard doesn't really eed a ton of water, however. But to see Yellow all over the bottom 4 feet of a tree kinda sucks.

Sounds like this is a situation with there are multiple ways of attacking, but it may not be much of an easy decision... money likely one of the major factors.
