On the last day of the freeze, my Rheem tankless displayed the 65 error code.

Key Points
A) Cold water taps run normal
B) Hot water taps, water runs for about 60 seconds and then loses pressure. In some cases, it will lose all pressure.
C) 65 flashes on the UMC-117 display.
C) Hot water never gets hot.
D) I never did anything to the Rheem unit for winter freeze preparation. Each night I would shut off water to the house during the freeze and drain most of the lines.
E) After the freeze, I turned water off/on that goes to the Rheem. There are no leaks. I do not hear the igniters kick .

I ordered Part # RTG20164L Water Control Valve. And it is on backorder.
Do you think the part will fix the issue?
Anything else I can check?
It looks like I can replace myself. Plumbers are booked for weeks in Texas.

  • Check for loose or damaged connections on the water control valve wiring harness.
  • Check that the water control valve has the proper voltage.
