Replacing old 3 handle shower / bath valves

Our house was built 35 years ago and has the original 3 handle valves.
Recently the tub spout fell off due to rust so now we cannot use it.
The valves still work but probably should be replaced and are ugly.
I also understand this configuration is now illegal and difficult to adjust the temperature.
I am thinking the best option is a conversion like this:

I am under the impression it will cost about $500 which I am ok with.
This way we do not have to replace the wall which is solid surface cultured marble.
I am a DIY type but this is way beyond my ability.
I am not sure if it makes any sense to keep the 3 handles and replace the valves and handles?
I remember years ago replacing some parts not sure if was the whole valve or just parts of it.

your faucet is probably granfathered. Assuming no children or elderly living there, and if your rough in body is not damaged, replacing the stems, seats and handles would probably be OK, saving you hundreds.
Check your local code to make sure.
The one handle no scald faucets are required otherwise, in new construction and resale homes.
If you prefer a single handle faucet, you can do the swap without breaking the back wall, and using a large cover plate made for this situation.
