I am renovating the basement bathroom. Started as replace the shower, but some water damage made it a complete tearout. I am at the point to cover the shower and toilet plumbing, but am a bit concerned.
1. The shower drains into the toilet line, right below the toilet.
2. The shower drain has no p-trap
3. I see no vent for these lines
4. The toilet drain <3’ to main sewer line.

I was going to just put a p-trap on the shower… luckily they left that box as dirt. However i am now wonder if the shower was acting as a vent and i may create other issues. I did occasionally get sewer smell and blocked the drain when not in use.

1. Can i just put a p-trap on shower drain?
2. Is it ok to let it drain into toilet line … i never had a backup into shower.?

Sounds Improperly or unvented If you can get a vent in off that trap arm you will be ok , it mighgt have code issuesw as there are ways vents need to be run and one of the big rules is usually to keep a dry vent verticle untill above flood level of its fixture so 6 inches above the toilet bowl minimum.

Also looking for a closet flange with 3 1/2 outside diameter into drain. Old one is from GSR has 3616 on it. Can only find 3” or 4”.
