Hi, I'm a DIY newbie, and just got my first place. Of course, I only noticed the leak from the bathtub faucet after the closing date! So now I need to fix it.

Most tutorials I see start with removing the shower handle using an allen key, but the screw or whatever is attaching my shower handle to the wall is covered by a screw cover. It's really in there tight and I couldn't pry it loose.

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove it, or what tools I could buy to do so without scratching the fixture? I've included pictures showing the handle and the screw cover located on the underside.

Thanks!

I have no knowledge of such handles. But just looking at the photo, it almost looks like that circle near the handle attachment is a spring-loaded pin/button. If you push that with an appropriately sized dowel, does that press in?

Something like a small flat blade screwdriver or the tip of a box knife will pop those plugs out.
Then you will have access to the Allen screw that holds the handle.
