Removing 1HP motor from old Berkeley centrifugal pump

I have an old Berkeley 1HP pump that is probably 60 years (maybe more) old. The motor won't start (think it is the start capacitor switch). The pump casting has a M 3010 on it and a number that I assume is a serial number on one of the feet.

I can't seperate the motor shaft from the pump. I have taken appart the pump hosing and there is not a nut on the end of the impeller nor any set screws that I can see. I have banged on it a bit but not too much since I'm not sure what is holding it on. Is it just rust? Is the impeller pressed onto a tapered motor shaft? Is the impeller threaded onto the motor shaft?

Testing the memory of an old man. Lol! But I think the impeller is threaded. Take the cap off the end of the motor and you should be able to get a wrench on the flats at the end of the shaft so you can hold while spinning the impeller.

Right hand or Left hand (reverse) thread on the impeller?

Should be regular right hand threads. The direction of motor spin should tighten the impeller.

If you think its the switch just pull the end bell of motor. Disconnect all the wires.
From shaft end rotation looks to be ccw would think it would be cw to loosen.

I think you are right. Does seem like I remember it being left hand threads. From shaft end should be ccw, so cw would unscrew the impeller. Thanks

Impeller is around 5" diameter. Should I try and use a strap wrench on it?

A strap wrench will work. If it is not too tight you can just stick a screwdriver in the impeller vanes.
