Remove to get at the leaking thermostatic valve

Hi,
I have a Grohe thermostatic valve which is leaking and can not figure out how to take this piece off to get at the valve. I hate to damage the piece by doing it the wrong way. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is awkward, but...
