I removed the sink and the frame from the countertop. It looks like originally both were sealed with plumber's putty, back in 1966. I've cleaned the tarnish off the stainless steel frame and I can re-use it.
Now in the 21st century, should I use putty or silicone caulk?
1) on the top where the frame rests on the top of the Formica countertop
2) on the "underside" where the sink is pushed up from beneath?
Should I allow the top to set up for a day or so before installing the sink, or does it need to be able to slide around a bit when I tighten up the sink?
I also need to figure out the size of the beads. Too much and there might be a thick visible layer of goop instead of a "tight" fit. Any tricks for getting this right? Obviously need to be careful to place same amount all around to avoid thick & thin areas, which would look bad.
