I am thinking about removing a bathtub from the 80's. It's a 1 piece preformed fiberglass which includes the tub and side walls. It only measures 57" across. Am I right to assume that it truly is 60" with the rest recessed in the wall? How hard is this for me to remove and replace with just a tub?

Getting it out is fairly easy, because you will have to cut it into pieces. As far installing a new one, that could be more than a DIY installation.
