Radiator valves

Have an old house notice increase in heating bill and wonder if replacing valves (never done) would assist with issue?

High Heating Bills

The first step in this situation would be to have the heating boiler inspected for proper operation, the boiler could be running needlessly because of a malfunction which would waste fuel.

What type of heating system do you have?
On a hot water or steam heating system, replacing the radiator shut off valves in order to make them fully operational will only save money on fuel costs if you plan on shutting some of them off in rooms that are not used.

Its a hot water system old boiler original oil with conversion burner to gas. Since owning the house we have never replaced those release valves which you use to bleed air. There has been construction and wonder if maybe they are not working right.

Really not experienced and we are thinking of replacing boiler this spring however wanted to try be as cost effective as possible. Windows and insulation not an issue.

Air Bleeder Valves

There really isn't a reason to replace the bleeder valves unless you have automatic type bleeders that are not working or the manual bleeders are inoperable or leaking. You may be able to hire a plumber to make some minor adjustments on your heating boiler to allow it to run more efficiently
