Quiet Shallow Pump?

I have a 300 gallon cistern in the basement. The bottom of it is about a foot off the floor. It is gravity fed.
Sitting on the floor is a Goulds Shallow Well Jet Pump.
1/2hp
230v
4.3A
3450 RPM
It's job is to raise the water from the cistern about one story @ 55 lbs pressure.

It is too noisy.
What would be the quietest pump I can put in the basement (directly below our bedroom) that would do the job of the Goulds pump, without the noise.

Just to make this question a little more complicated, My house is now totally solar. (off grid).

I have heard about VFDs but know nothing about them.

Thanks
Greg

The quietest would be a submersible pump horizontally near the bottom. The pump would be in a flow inducer sleeve to route the water past the motor to keep it cool.

I would expect a multi-stage centrifugal pump outside the tank would be quieter than your current jet pump, but not as quiet as a submersible in the cistern

There are pumps made to run directly off of solar, but they are a premium.

A VFD would not be good for this job, and neither would a CSV, due to your solar+battery setup.

Is there a place I can read about this type of setup?
Thanks for answering

I just set up something just like this, 500 gallon doorway tank in mechanical room downstairs. I went with a submersible due to reading about the possible noise. It still makes noise but not too bad, about the level of a refrigerator running from outside the room. I can post more when at my PC or ping me on IM.

Re: Flow inducer/sleeve. A couple videos that might help. I used a combination of techniques in these two videos:

Some submersibles are more quiet than others just like some are more efficient that others. You are running a jet pump on a solar system. Adding a CSV does not cause a problem with a solar system. The back pressure from a CSV will even make the pump run quieter. Just use the same size pressure tank you have now and set the CSV to fill the tank in about 1 minute.

They are more expensive, but if noise and efficiency are important I would use a 10S05-9 or a 10SQ05-160 Grundfos pump.

Here is the sleeve I made for my Goulds 10HS05422C pump. It lays on its side in the tank, the 90 at the end was so prevent picking up sediment at the bottom but I switched my setup to fill the tank with filtered water instead of raw well water so I probably could have done it differently.
