Hello good people. I have a Ridgid K-45 AF which I've used on a problem with a very slow draining vanity sink, but it clogs back up almost instantly. I noticed some hard black gunk pieces which could possibly be hardened deposits / stuff inside the pipes, so I'm thinking a spade head or a cutter type spade head might clear it better.

The cable on the the K-45 has the bulb head which is permanently a part of the cable, so I'm going to swap cables with one that has the male/female attachments to change the heads. I usually only snake out bathroom vanity sinks and tubs, with some basement stack routing very rarely. (the old "lets see if this will do anything")

Anyway, my question is, which size cable should I get? I was going to go with the 5/16 for the better flexibility in the 1 1/4" vanity pipes, but then thought maybe the 3/8 cable will be better when I do the tub or any larger pipes, as it's a bit more sturdy. So, if I do go with the 3/8, will it be more trouble to get through the smaller diameter pipes. or does the size difference not matter too much between those sizes?

Thank you in advance.

GUNK is usually grease, which makes a cable basically useless. A cable is good to establish a flow, then use a jetter, normally an electric, no more than 2 HP and 2 GPM, and have a good wet-dry vacuum nearby by

Water Jetting scours the line to restore full flow . E Bay has decent electric water jetters from General, Rigid, Mustang etc.
