Hello everyone .,

Im going to be installing a washing machine on my house boat, and I've got a question about the drain. I know normally there would be a 2" drain pipe that the washers drain pipe with the hook on it is normally just taller than the machine itself. And then drops down to a P trap.
And im wondering if the washers drain pipe "has to" be installed that way for proper operation of the unit. The reason I ask is the location I'll be installing the unit is very close to where the unit will be draining to. ( through Hull fitting ) that is about 6" lower than the bottom of the washer . I could very easily cut the drain hose short and make a permanent connection less than a foot away. But part of me is thinking that the hose might need to go up above the flood line of the unit before draining into a wall drain. I have enough room to put a wall drain pipe in if I need it. But if its not needed that would mean I wouldn't need to make the back wall deeper to acomidate the drain pipe .saving me alot of room.
Can somebody please help me out on this drain question?

You are correct the drain line needs to go above the flood rim, if not your water will just run right out when it's filling. It's how we empty washing machines when they fail with a full tub.

Placing it above the flood rim ensures that the system holds water as intended until the pump actively drains it, just like in a correctly installed washing machine setup
