I just reviewed this recent similar thread:
https://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/leaking-under-slab-abs-connector.90353/#post-648979

I too need to tie into the middle of a fixed 4" main drain (PVC) with a 4" x 3" wye (underground, just outside of the house, but not under slab). I'm interested in opinions on use of repair coupling vs. Fernco for this situation. In the above thread, the general consensus seemed in favor of the Fernco option as "less of a PITA" for installation. Is there a maximum pipe size where a repair coupling is not practical to expect to get a proper weld? Am I crazy to even consider a repair coupling on a 4" pipe? Or is this just a preference thing?

A fernco in the ground without the metal wrap.
