I have a leak in an ABS 2 inch drain pipe for the kitchen sink at one of the two 45 degree ABS fittings coming from the floor into the basement on an outside wall. The first 45 degree fitting from the straight floor pipe is fine, it is the second one at the next joint that is leaking. So, I want to cut out the second 45 and then use a hub saver on the first one. Otherwise, I might have to tear out the ABS all the way up to the sink area.

My problem is I ordered this from Amazon and it was very cheap:

Jones Stephens gets good reviews for quality. There are many other knockoffs on Amazon. But what happened with Amazon is that they could not get the tool at that price and the purchase was refunded to me. My local plumbing supply house will sell me the above tool for $65.

I also saw that this tool brand is very good and is in the $65 dollar range also.

My question is, the Reed tool looks better than the Jones. And are the other knock offs any good. I am at the point of just going to my local plumbing house and get the Reed, they carry that brand also for about the same price $65.

Thanks, Tom

The Jones Steven's style are terrible and don't work well in my opinion. May be fine for a one time diy situation. We use the Reed at work, they're very good. That style is the best. If not using regularly a knock off may be fine.

removed many broke off pipes from hub with out special tools but its a bit of a hassel next time if its just one and not too pressing take a look at you tube videos on removing pipe from hubs looks like a great tool but thats only 2 inch unless you get a complete set you still might find yourself in a position where learning a trick might be worthwhile

I haven't used either, but it seems the Reed's snout will keep the tool better aligned. I would think the Stevens would require a careful alignment.

Ive used pasco socket saver and the jones stevens , i see bluefin on supply house .com has them for 6 dollars i think the three are basic junk but they get the job done Id concider even the bluefin. pasco dosent take much technique of cource in my case it was abs and not pressure pipe i did use it on 2 inch pool pump line not sure if it was suction or supply but no issues . i might just pick up a 3 inch cheapie i have 1 1/2 and 2 inch already 3 inch is 9 bucks Id say i use them less than once a year
