I am no longer skeptical of a significant wear-out mechanism during starts. Table A in that catalog shows an expected life of over 10,000 starts.
Just like they know how many starts it takes to wear out a capacitor, they know how many starts it takes to wear out a motor, although that is probably a more closely guarded secret.
They don’t want you to know there is a date of death built into every motor. But if you size your pressure tank like the pump manufacturer recommends, I’ll bet they will know almost exactly the date you will need a new motor, because it is directly related to the number of cycles.
