We recently installed an 'old fashion' style pull chain toilet but the when you lift the seat it hits the pipe behind it that leads up to the water tanks hanging 4' above.
We have searched everywhere and no one has a solution.... basically we need a way to stop the seat from hitting the pipe when you lift the lid and the seat itself...right now, you lift and it 'rests' on the pipe....which is not ideal.... thanks for ALL your help!

Thanks Reach4. I’ll look into that piece on the link you provided! Any idea where I could have a custom one created? I think I might need a larger bumper...

Maybe put something like a wrist pin cushion on the pipe at a strategic spot. It would not protect much against a sitter leaning, however.
https://www.michaels.com/loops-and-threads-wrist-pin-cushion/10340864.html for example.

EDIT: I also see that that place sells
"Replacement button for our 24-98 toilet seat bumpers. 8-32 male thread, 7/16” O.D."

It seems to me that if you wanted a larger OD button, you could get somebody to braze something, such as a dime or quarter or a fender washer, to an 8-32 flathead screw. Then put an adhesive bumper on that.
