My heating company recently installed the propane tank and ran the line to the fireplace. Everything has been pressure tested and approved. I would like to install the burner and logset but I am unable to remove the plug at the end of the galvanized joint. This is where I need to attach the flex line for the burner plate. Would the flex line normally go where the plug is with some sort of adapter or should the galvanized union be removed completely and hook the flex line directly up to the incoming copper? Never done this before so apologize if it’s a dumb question. Thank you.

That is a coupling not a union, and it is black iron not galvanized. Where is the shut off valve. If there is not one installed yet, I would remove the coupling and install a gas ball valve. From there it should a gas flex and flare by mip adapter. If you are unsure or uncomfortable working with gas it would be best to have this professionally done.
Thank you for your response. There is a shut off at the bottom of the clean out. Do you know if the flex pipe will connect directly to that fitting on the copper feed pipe?

You also need to account for the huge difference in pressure between L.P. and natural gas. L.P. needs to run through some type of orifice reducer.
