I have had this water softener for a couple years but I think it could be programmed more efficiently. I have a 5 person family but one is a baby and doesn't use much water so I am guessing that calculating for 4 would be more accurate - 2 adults and 2 kids age 8 and 10. So I am guessing maybe 60 gallons of water a day each for 240. Hardness in orange ca is 16. The softener is 64000 grain/2 cu ft.and the blfc is .25, injector is 0.

Current settings:

DF: GAL
VT: St2b (Standard Downflow/Upflow Double Backwash)
CT: Fd (Meter Flow Delayed)
C: 30k (capacity)
H: 16 (hardness)
RS: cr
DO: 8 (Day override)
RT: 2:00AM
B1: 6 mins (back wash)
BD: 45 mins (brine draw)
B2: 5 (backwash)
RR: 6 mins (rapid rinse)
BF: 12 mins
FM: t1.2 - 1.5'' Turbine Meter (7000 default)

Any advice on how I did with the settings? Thanks.

Your BD was low, and might have resulted in some residual salt in the first water after regen.
Don't blame the installer for the lean settings. CA wants it that way. I am not a pro, so I am suggesting more luxurious (less Spartan) settings.

Your Backwash minutes were fine.

Note the numbers below are not quite a match for a 16 minute

Thank you! So when kids get older and use more water, do I just increase c and the corresponding bf?

No adjustments. When you use the automatic settings, the valve will adjust to what it sees, and change the reserve on its own.

The gallons in what I wrote is to make the prediction of how often it will regen. It will take time for the valve to gather data, so it might regen early for a while.
