Pressure too high?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and I have a question.

I just noticed that the pressure gauge on my well pump shows about 110 psi, which is way to high. However, the system seems to work fine, it shuts on and off the way it's supposed to be, I guess.

The pressure control is a Square D Pumptron, cut on 30, cut off 50. What can I do to get the gauge down to the pressure tank preset of 38psi?

Thanks a lot.

Ed

As you use water, the pressure on the gauge is supposed to go up and down between 30 and 50 psi. If it doesn't the gauge is bad.

If you have 38 psi air pressure with no water in the tank, that is wrong for 30/50 switch settings. It should be 29-28 psi air pressure in the tank with no water in the tank.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The gauge does not go up and down when the water flows. It's sitting fixed on about 110 psi.

As to the 38 air pressure in the tank, this is the factory preset.

Is there any way to check what the actual water pressure is on any given faucet?

Thanks,

Ed

Then you need to adjust the air pressure in the tank as described in the sticky posts at the top of this forum, or not and ruin the pump due to short cycling etc..

While you have the tank drained, replace the gauge with a new one.

Just for the heck of it I have checked the air pressure in the tank (not drained) and it is 53 psi, which seems to me is pretty much in the normal range, right?

What I don't know is the correlation between the tank air pressure and the actual water pressure.

Can someone answer that?

Thanks,

Ed

I know I did not measure the air precharge pressure, I never said that.

You are saying that my measurement of 53 psi is actually the water pressure, right? Wich means, the gauge is indeed stuck and needs to be replaced, correct?

Thanks,

Ed

Thanks for the confirmation.

What's the best place to buy one of those gauges? Home Depot, Lowe's, ACE?
