Hi. New here, first post.

I have a waterlogged 42 gal vertical Flotec tank that is discontinued.

Can I replace it with a 44 gal Water Works from Home Depot same design just 2 gal bigger while keeping everything else the same?

I have an ACE brand 240v 1/2 HP 10gal per minute submersible pump.

I replaced the switch about 10 years ago with the same one that was on it before but I have to find the part number. I think it was a DD brand. Probably a 40-60 but not sure.

I'm about to dig in to to the forum to see if someone has already asked this before.

Thanks for any info.

Yes.

The pumptrol switches are common and good.

If you want to upgrade, consider the Well-X-Trol WX-250. Costs significantly more, but since changing the tank is considerable work, if your cash flow is good, I would consider the upgrade.

"Water worker" ... brand for big box, is also made by amtrol. Butyl/EPDM 100 psi max. Malleable Iron connection (with stainless steel insert).

"Well-X-Trol" Amtrol Well-X-Trol by Amtrol has Butyl diaphragm, and has the multi-dome feature. 150 psi max pressure. Costs ~ double. Doubt you could rely on it to last twice as long. Butyl does hold air better, but the mix should still be good for a year or so between fills.

The multi-dome feature is good at saving the bladder if the precharge gets really low.... prevents excess expansion.

I don't like the Flotec tanks. They have a bladder instead of a diaphragm. Bladder is theoretically replaceable.
Thank you.

Yea you are right about the price difference. I've also been reading bad reviews about all the different brands (even the Well-X).

The old Flotec tank lasted about 25 years.

I had the pump changed about 4 years ago (the pump before it lasted about 12 years or so).

It's easy access to the tank so I'll more then likely go with the Water Worker. Maybe it will last 25 years and outlast me, HaHa.

All the problems that cause bladders/diaphragms in tanks to tear, pressure switches to burn up, and pumps to only last a third as long as they should can be solved by stopping the pump from cycling on and off. A Cycle Stop Valve using only a 5 gallon size pressure tank will do a better job than a large tank. The strong constant pressure in the shower is a bonus. Lol.

Hi Reach4.

My sister picked up the new tank today (the Water Worker) but it has a 1 1/4" fitting where my old one has a 1" fitting.

I called Ace Hardware and they have the adapter fittings to make it work.

It this common practice, or should I buy the next size pressure T that is 1 1/4" x 13" rather than a 1' x 11".

Thanks again

Hi Valveman.

This is for my sister and she wants to keep the traditional tank system for now.

Thank you

1. Home pressure tanks bigger than 32 gallons up to pretty big typically have 1.25 NPT input.

2. It is best to not add galvanized to a system. Plastic, brass, and stainless are good.
