I really appreciate your help, thanks Reach4! I'll play around with the float. If I can't wire it - I'll try to get a OEM replacement. I had ordered it thinking the floats had universal wiring..
I would try to figure out which wires go to the float switch, and measure the voltage across those terminals in the box. When the switch is open, expect voltage across the terminals. When the switch is closed, the voltage would go to about zero.
