A few years back I swapped out my well pressure tank and added a filter system. Twice each year I swap out the filters and I did this just about a week ago. I came down today to inspect the system to make sure nothing was leaking after I replaced the filters and noticed drops on the top of my pressure switch, directly above it I could see drops on the ceiling. The drops were oily. I torn open the ceiling to find out where the leak was coming from and it was dry as a bone. Turns out it came from the pressure gauge. At some point it must have fired off the plug and hit the ceiling and has since been dripping down. Any thoughts on why this would happen?

Thank you.
