Hi all,

I recently installed a couple of new lavatories. Everything went well with no leaks.

Since then I have seen a couple of videos where the person uses pipe dope on the threads and/or rubber gasket (circled in red in my attached photo).

What is the best practice? Do you use pipe dope on the threads - and if so, what kind? Similarly, do you use pipe dope or plumbers putty on the rubber gasket?

Thanks for reading :)

The upper circle gets pipe dope on the threads where it passes through the rubber seal. I don't put anything on the rubber though. It's just to block that path the water follows down the threads.

The lower circle gets dope or tape.
