My house is 15 years old. I have lived here 8 years.
10 days ago there was a strange hum/moan noise that I traced to the kitchen faucet. Turning it on ended the noise. The noise came back when I turned it off. After about 5 minutes it ended.
A couple days later the noise came back; my wife said it came from the shower. Again, it went on and off with water.
A few days later it happened again, and I found turning any valve on stopped the noise.
The fourth time I found the pipe coming out of the gas water heater was vibrating; the heater was off. I turned off the valve sending water to the humidifier and the vibration/noise stopped. Turned it back on, and it started again. I am now thinking the problem is the valve, but I am at a loss to understand it. Why would turning the kitchen faucet on affect the humidifier valve? I can just replace the valve again, but it would be nice to understand the problem.
Perhaps I should mention that I have had to replace that valve twice already. Turning it on in the fall it broke and leaked badly. I now have a Brasscraft TA17. (https://www.homedepot.com/p/BrassCr...let-1-4-Turn-Angle-Valve-G2CR19X-C1/202047059).
