I need replace my kitchen faucet but this drain pipe is blocking the path. Please take a look of the picture of the O shaped drain pipe. Not much idea of its function.
If I have to remove it to replace the faucet, what're the options to replace the O shaped drain pipe with?

More information on the picture, it's a single sink, next is disposal and then p-trap and then O pipe (?) going down to the basement which is accessible. Any comment is appreciated.
Thanks a lot.

The person who put that in did not understand it either, unless he figured to baffle with BS.

You want something more like this:
