Yes, they don't make those anymore.

The correct replacement would be a single handle, pressure balanced faucet.

so I'd create the third hole. okay will the tool be capable of creating a hole in stainless steel?

Why not just update it using something like this.

Roto Zip tool to cut out

If you have access to the back wall, then a standard single handle may be all you need.
Any plumber would call it a fairly simple job.
