PEX sizing

So over the fall I had a contractor install a septic as well as fresh water main and electrical conduit to cabin. I'm just now getting around to begin the fresh water connections and when I 1st looked at the main PEX line comming in I assumed it was a 1" PEX pipe. So I bought a 1" to 1/2" coupling. Went to go fit it and no go. Looks like the ID of the main PEX is 1"?? After doing some looking around I'm having a tough time finding a coupling for this size.

So the main PEX line is OD 1-5/16" ID 1"

Is this a strange size, can I reduce directly to a 1/2" PEX and where can I find this coupling?

If that bigger pipe is PEX, it is "1-1/4 in". That is 1.054 in ID x 1-3/8 in OD.

That is your electrical conduit? If so, I would think you would be adapting to something other than 1/2 inch PEX.

If that is your water line, you want to go bigger than 1/2 inch pex, at least to the pressure tank.

So... that is a picture of the water line from our "pump house" to the new cabin. The pressure tank is before this water line. The 1/2 pex is what I was going to use for all the plumbing in the cabin. Small 14x20 rental with most usage during the summer. 1 kitchen sink, 1 shower, 1 toilet, 1 small bathroom sink, 1 electric tankless water heater.

The conduit has no issues, so far, and no pictures.

So is "1-1/4 in" pretty standard size? Having trouble finding a 1-1/4 to 1/2 coupling.

OR do they not make that reducing coupling and I will 1st need to reduce to 1" then to 3/4"?

That large (1-5/16") PEX looks like a sleeve for burial and passing through the concrete slab. The smaller PEX tube inside is probably your water supply line.

I had assumed that tpsmith82 had put that 1/2 in the picture for size comparison. But what you suspect makes sense.

It just doesn't flow that much volume. If someone is showering and someone else starts to use some other water, both may notice. But, if the well is a low producer, and you have a big enough storage tank, it might be more than adequate...would need to know the whole setup.

How far away is the pumphouse and how many gpm does it produce?

Actually the big PEX tube is the supply. I just cut a couple inches off both lines to take to the big box store and see if I could make a connection between the two, when I took the picture I just had that 1/2" sitting inside of the larger PEX

As I mentioned, the supply line is the larger 1-1/4" PEX. However you bring up an interesting thought with talking about the well, pressure tank and pump. There are two othere houses, total of 3, on our 1 well. There has been two on the well for some time, but we just resently added this 3rd cabin. I'm wondering what the effect might be on the pump, supply and overall system. Honestly, I don't know for sure the output of the pump. The pressure tank I'd say is about 2.5' tall and around 2' diameter? Both more than likely origonally installed in the mid 90's. Out actual well is pretty shallow, I think around 25', and as far as I know has never had any issues with running low.

Is there any good why to test the output of the pump? Would you sugest upgrading pump, tank based on test results, age or the addition of the cabin?

For what it's worth, well is located on edge of propery. From there a mian line runs to our well house about 75' away. In the well house we have the pressure tank, then a main line that splits in 2. One line runs directly to one of the houses, 200' away. The other line splits again and runs to each of the other houses, 1 about 100' away the other about 200' away. When we added this 3rd cabin I was thinking of upgrading the whole system, but we have thoughts of adding an addtional cabin or 2 and though at that point we would upgrade if needed.

Had a little more luck today and found a brass reducer that should work well. I'll then add a 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 tee. Run 3/4 to the tankless electric hot water heater, and the 1/2 to rest of house.

Now trying to find a clamp for the 1-1/4 pipe connection. Wondering if these work well for PEX connection?

How about a shutoff valve for the water coming into the cabin.
