Pan under tank

Presently have water heater (electric) installed above master closet. I decided after 10 years to install a new one directly below in the closet. Wondering what magic ideas to access the drain to flush it periodically. There isn’t much room left in the plastic pan and of course the angle doesn’t have enough clearance for a hose connection. Do I tighten or loosen the drain to attach a hose or am I missing something. I could open the T/P valve but I want to drain the bottom of the tank. TIA Don in Naples Fl.

We raise WH up on blocks to insure easy drain use. Full port ball valve is the way to go for draining WH. You can take the handle off to help reduce clearance if necessary or cap the hose end on the valve.
