Hello Everyone,

My wife and I are building an apt. in our home for our elderly parents and got a plumbing quote that we simply cannot afford, so like all overly ambitious, foolhardy DIYers, we got a rotary hammer drill, opened up our floor, and attempted to lay out a functional, sensible plan. I’ve done my best to pictorially describe this plumbing layout, and to accurately identify all relevant components.

I’m hoping that some expert plumbers will 1) take pity on us, and 2) scrutinize these plans and let me know where I’ve proposed something that is sub-optimal, or worse, that might fail. As you can see, I’ve laid all of this out in CAD, so if anyone needs a better view, a different angle, photos of the actual space, etc., I’ll be happy to provide whatever I can to clarify.

My wife and I regularly perform our own home improvements and repairs, which have included some pretty involved carpentry and plumbing and electric, but this is more advanced and with higher stakes. I wish we could afford to use the plumber who quoted the job, but again, it’s just more than we can afford. I really appreciate anyone taking some time to review, so thanks to everyone in advance. Please reach out any time for any questions/clarifications.

I recommend you get a plumber to go over every detail before you pour.
There are so many elements to plumbing that can't be relayed in these forums and you will regret it if you don't have hands on help. A slab is not the place to make catastrophic mistakes and there are so many to make.
-cleanout required on any run longer than 5'
-long sweeps any time transitioning from vertical to horiz. on drains
DON'T try underslab plumbing first time DIY YOU WILL REGRET IT !

Hello Breplum,
Thanks very much for the response. I take your point about getting a plumber to analyze each and every part of this plan—it's unfortunately been extremely difficult to even get someone here to survey the project, whether he does it, I do it, or some combination of both.
I've been trying to get someone to act as a sort of plumbing consultant—maybe a retired plumber looking to make some extra money without actually having to perform the physical labor. Someone who could review the plan, amend where needed, give me some pointers along the way, and then point out any mistakes made and how to correct. I don't know if they're all a bit nervous about liability (despite my reassurances) or simply too busy, but this has really been a challenge.

If you have any advice on where to look for this plumbing guru, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks again for the response.

I recently replaced a bunch of shut off valves in my home at the insistence of home insurer. After the work was done they wanted a licensed plumber to certify the work. I was looking for some independent plumbers. I searched and found some recommendations on Reddit. I connected with a retired plumber who now does odds and ends but he was not licensed. I loosened one of the shut off valves and called a licensed plumber to fix the "leak" and got the whole house certified leak-free.

Search plumbers Cincinnati on Reddit and you may get some plumbers info. Upto you to verify their credentials. YMMV

All the best.

Hello distressed,
I hadn't thought of looking on Reddit for plumbers (in fact I'm not really sure how to do that yet), so thank you for the suggestion. That's a great idea.
