Hi I wonder if anyone can help. I have this recurring issue with my double sink. When you drain the bowl from one side the water rises into the other sink. From doing online searches I’m wondering if installing a AAV might solve it or is something else glaringly obviously wrong with the current installation? Any ideas much appreciated.

1. An AAV will not help a sink drain better. An AAV can help with a trap siphoning out and then passing smells. But it will not help your backing up.

2. The problem may be downstream of what is shown in the picture. How much water can you add to one bowl before water backs up into the other bowl?

For those wondering, this sink is in London.

Thank you for this. The problem occurs when I fill one sink to wash up. I Stack the clean dishes in the other one, then when I empty the dirty water it goes into the other sink. There are no blockages. I thought it might be to do with height of the Ubend which we have now lowered. There is a stretch of approx 2m of pipe before it goes into the main waste pipe leading to the drain. I would say the back up happens from filling maybe a quarter of the bowl.

There is most likely an obstruction downstream. Does the tee on the left side drain have a baffle in it?
