I'm trying to update my older brass and chrome finish monticello with this:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/MOEN-Br...d-Nickel-Valve-Not-Included-T4943BN/100672388

I have the same hardware as this post with the same large nut holding down the cartridge as shown:
https://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/moen-monticello-roman-tub-valve-repair.54124/

Also attached an image of handle section.

Before unscrewing the nut and trying to pull anything, I wanted to make sure I was doing this correctly and that the trim kit I purchased will work. I did swap the spout so at least that works.

If the kit I bought won't work, please let me know.

I find myself in the EXACT same situation! Any ideas anyone? Looks like these really will not work, like this older Monticello was before the M-Pact or something?

I found this info on the Moen site for the discontinued Monticello but it doesn't state anything about the valve body. A call to Moen may answer your question. If you know the age of the faucet they would know when the M-Pact started production. I searched on the chrome ring part number for the tub spout and looks like you can still get parts for it.

Thanks for the help. That pointed me in a good direction and I got this all sorted. you CAN use just a trim kit upgrade. For anyone in future, here are the steps.

Moen has a pdf "Moen Roman Tub Trim Compatibility Guide" that has simple step by step instructions to determine what new type trims you can upgrade to. That file is too big to upload here, and I cannot find it directly searching, but Moen will email it if you call support. That lists many options and the Brandtford is among them. If you have the "D" shaped plastic adapter with the chrome nut as I did, and as shown in the OP photo, then you just need to order also Moen service kit 106378 (I found it online for $11). That also came w/o instructions but I found some somewhere so posting that.

In my photo, small red circles are all the old stuff that came out and can throw away. Big circle is what I used from the kit. The X and a couple other pieces not shown were also in the kit but not needed. Finally the "big circle" extender was too long for the new Brandtford handles so I cut off two sections. you can see they are grooved just for that purpose and took about 15 seconds with a small hacksaw.

Once I had the correct kit, it took me ~20 minutes to do the first one and about 2 minutes to do the second! Good luck.

Curious how long the spout shank was on your system? I have Chateau from about 1999 and its about 1" long. Moen literature says nothing will work with that size, need to be 1.25-1.5" shank for any current spout. I was interested in the Brantford you got, but fear it wont work, just the handles would with the kit?
