So this is my lovely configuration in my 1964 house. This picture is from the garage. The two lead bends are for two upstairs bathroom. You can see the one on the left has the tub train going into it. You can't see in this picture, but the one on the right has the sink drain going in. The tops of these are too busted and wonky to salvage, and the one on the right has a small split anyway, so I need to get rid of these.
I know you can melt or drill out the lead to pull them out of the cast iron, but it is very difficult to access the back side, especially for the pipe on the left. If I were to cut through the the cast iron hub just behind the first flare, would I have enough pipe left to be able to insert the rubber gasket for PVC?
Also, how would I go about tying in the tub and sink drains back into the main line? They are lead pipes also, so I would plan on removing them and replacing with PVC. Any advice and insight appreciated!!!
