Having an issue with our Kohler toilet. If not used for a while the tank slowly drains and the float will not drop all the way, so it does not refill. Lifting the cover and just tapping the adjustment screw drops the float and it will refill. Regular flushes are OK.

Sounds like you need a new flapper and fill valve.

The toilet is only 2 yrs old, it is the cylinder type, not flapper. Is there anything to look at as far as the float dropping easier. It appears that the tank slowly looses water (don't hear anything, could it be the seal at the bottom of the cylinder??) the float goes down with the water and stops at a point. just tapping the top of the float where the adjustment screw is makes it drop the rest of the way. I have tried adjusting, does not seem to make a difference.
