Our 30 yr old washed in well finally gave up the ghost. So, we had a 50’ drilled well put in about a week and a half ago. We love the pressure change and it’s nice to not have the noise of the jet pump in the crawl. But, we’ve noticed the water tastes plastic and you can smell it in the steam of a shower. I’m thinking it’s the new poly line. Will this subside or do I need a whole house filter? We have an RO system. But, it only services a drinking tap in the kitchen and the fridge.

thanks!

Poly usually doesn't put off a smell. It might be the PVC casing in the well. The smell comes more from the PVC glue and cleaner. But yes any new well needs to be developed. I know it seems like a waste, but you need to run several thousand gallons on the ground, run the pump for hours if not days, and get the well cleaned out and developed properly. It takes a long tome to clean out the well just using water for house use.
