Hi everyone,

I’ve recently installed a ShinMaywa Norus submersible pump (model 50CR2.25S) in my well system, and I’m having trouble getting it to run. It’s a brand-new unit and should be running perfectly according to the specs, but it’s not doing anything. Here are the details and what I’ve done so far:

Pump Model: ShinMaywa Norus 50CR2.25S
Power Supply: 115V Single Phase
Discharge Size: 2″
Solids Handling: 1-1/4″
Power Cable Length: 32′
Warranty: 2 Years

Symptoms:

  1. The pump doesn’t start at all.
  2. There’s no noise, vibration, or any sign of power being received.
  3. Circuit breaker hasn’t tripped and the outlet is live.
Troubleshooting Steps Already Taken:

  1. Power Supply Check: Verified that the outlet is providing 115V and is functioning correctly.
  2. Wiring Inspection: Checked all connections and wiring. Everything seems secure and correctly installed.
  3. Float Switch: Confirmed that the float switch (if applicable) is not obstructed and is functioning properly.
  4. Pump Position: Ensured the pump is properly submerged and not blocked by debris.
  5. Multimeter Test: Measured the voltage at the pump’s terminals, which seems to be correct.
Pump Details:

  • Motor HP: 1/3 HP
  • Amps: 4.4
  • Max Flow: 4,800 GPH
  • Max Head: 28′
  • Construction: Stainless Steel, Cast Aluminum Bearing Housing
  • Seals: Dual Mechanical Shaft Seals
Questions:

  1. Could there be an issue with the start capacitor or motor? How can I test these components?
  2. Are there common installation issues specific to this model that I might have missed?
  3. Is it possible for a brand-new pump to be defective? How would I go about checking or replacing it under warranty?
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated. I’m really hoping to get this sorted out soon!

Thanks in advance!

a pump that doesn't run either has a jam or a defective motor IF the float switch is working.
most pumps are sealed and you can't get to start capacitor...i've never been aware of one on submersible sump pump.
all things are possible

Ohm out the motor to see if you have a connection. Then use a clip around AC amp meter to see what is happening. Yes, a new pump can be bad out of the box. But you need to make sure you have power all the way to the motor.
