New pump not priming

Hello, I had a voltage issue with my prior motor so I just replaced it. I put in another 1.5 HP Flotec. On my prior pump I am guessing I was losing prime in my suction line because it would take 30-45 seconds for the pump to bring up water, but it always worked. With the new pump in place I have to put a half gallon of water in the pump tank each time. The tank is fine after an hour but if you let it sit overnight it loses water. I checked the water level and there was not much in it. Considering that the line from the well (horizontal pipes) is at the top of the tank, even if the check valve was leaking what would cause water from the middle to bottom of pump tank to disappear overnight? I did put in a new check valve.

Plastic check valves and plastic fittings screwed into the suction of a pump are bad ideas. Plastic check valve are just crappy, and plastic fittings to the pump get soft when warm and cause suction leaks.

A suction leak.

Thanks. So a suction leak or a bad check valve would cause water to disappear where the yellow arrow is in my new picture? This is below the inlet line. Does the water evaporate?
