Hello,
A house we just purchased has a Kinetico softener plus a Culligan system going to a bleach bottle, which I suppose is for sanitizing purposes.
What would the reason be for the Culligan to be in place?
Did they have unsafe well water?
How often should a new bottle be installed?
Scrolling through the Culligan Gold programming, it seems like a more limited menu as opposed to a Culligan set up for softening, it this accurate?
Thanks for any info on this!
James

It is advisable for you to have your water tested through a testing lab such as National labs.
http://www.ntllabs.com

As you are operating a private well, you are responsible for the water's safety and treatment. Without lab test results for your specific well, all anyone here can do is guess as to the purpose of the equipment or the appropriate settings or chlorine dose.

It could be a backwashing filter, such as an iron and/or H2S filter. If it is in line before the softener, that would be probable.

https://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/well-water-has-a-rotten-egg-smell-at-times.65414/ could be of interest. I don't know how that worked out.

Yes, get the raw water tested. Raw water means before treatment stuff.
If you care about the coliform test results, care needs to be taken in sampling. http://www.ugra.org/pdfs/SamplingHandout.pdf is one description of a method to avoid contaminating the sample. If you don't take special precautions, don't bother with the coliform test.

If you are looking to get that Culligan filter working (better?) provide more info. What is your perception of your water now?
