I have a new neighbor building a home next door to me. They spent 4 days drilling a new well, to a depth of 800 feet, with no luck. They now plan to frack in order to get to water. Are there questions I should be asking my town? What affect might this have on my well and my water quality? Am I worrying about nothing?

This is a water well for household use, right?

Jenny, how is your well doing? Is the new well about 100 ft from your well?

It is for a home, yes. And no, they are more than 100' away. I don't think they will be fracking until spring. My well is excellent, which is why I'm so afraid they're going to mess something up!

Fracking a water well is completely different from fracking for oil. For one thing they are fracking in a water bearing formation, not in hydrocarbons. The pressure is much lower and they don't use sand or chemicals, just water. Even if your well is fairly close I don't think you will see any effect.
