I started up my own plumbing company last month and yesterday I had my first clogged line call. Unfortunately I had to send them to a friend because I have no drain gear. So now I need to buy something. I do residential service work so 99% drain calls would be 1 1/2" lavs to 3" lines clogges from a toilet. If there are roots I'd just go rent the machine. Is there one machine that can do what I need? Thanks in advance.

I would suggest you buy a General Super Vee with a 1/4" cable for 11/2 waste lines and a 3/8 cabe for 2"-3" no roots

The 1/4" should have a fixed drop head to negotiate tight bends

Try E BAY. The reason I like the General as opposed to Ridgid is I have both and the General has lasted over 40 years and still going strong

You may also want a General Ram Jet as it is great for fixture stoppages, mine paid for itself after two jobs and it also is over 40 years old, and I only had to rebuild one 20+ years ago

The Rigid 71722 is a good machine, as it allows for one-hand operation, but it is very pricey. I have 4 of them, and if employees use them, they tend to kink the cables

As opposed to removing old water heaters? ;-)

Removing old heaters is easy peasy... with an Escelara staircat stair climber...
its really no big deal... I do them all the time

Dragging a spartan cable and machine up and down a flight of stairs is not fun
and grinding on roots in a sewer in someones clean basement will melt your mind after a while.....

but to each his own.... I say...
