The unit is not converting plastics into oil, the oil is fabrication oil used in the making process of the heat exchangers and other aluminums. Once its wiped down once it will not return. Navien wont admit to it and will try to blame it on the exhaust pipe being too close to the intake and again, even if so, you are not converting CO into oil.

Also still unsure why anyone would change out their tank water heater thats been maintenance free for years and easy to replace when needed with the above Navien.

Many/most of "Mikey Pipes" customers opting for NCB xxx combi-boiler units are swapping out an oversized cast iron beast with an internal tankless coils for serving up hot water, not a tank water heater (though some are.)

Many many water heaters & boilers in his service area were condemned in the wake of superstorm Sandy floods. At the price of natural gas & electricity on Long Island it's cost effective for most families of four or more to go with a wall hung condensing boiler even after factoring in the extra maintenance costs. Installing a wall-hung boiler or water heater above the high-tide mark isn't necessarily crazy, and easier to pull off than installing a tank or cast iron boiler at a sufficiently high elevation.

It would take years to make up for the outrageously over priced installation costs when compared to a conventional water heater. A $400 water heater plus $700 to install at most vs a $2000 tankless with a $5000 installation price tag, thats aside from the constant failures of sensors that on average cost$500 to replace and plenty of down time. it will never make sense to me no matter how high the water line is.

If we had a hurricane Sandy once a year and affected by it, it would still be more cost efficient to steer clear of a Navien thankless.
