Hi All,

Expanding my shower and need to relocate the shower drain. In the photo, the new drain hole will be where the WD-40 can is. There is a horizontal joist that is between the existing drain and proposed drain. Is the best way to drill through the joist, make new connection and sister the joist?

Thanks

Rick

What size is the floor joist?
With a 2x10 there is room for that. You should leave at least 2" on the top and 2" on the bottom of the joist. A 2-7/8" hole works for that on a 2x10.

Thanks Terry. Yes, joists are 2 x 10. Do you think the joist will need to be supported with sister framing due to the hole?
