I have 11 year old tub faucets. They are leaking and decided to replace them. I bought the cartridge Moen 1248 and tool 14272 as per friend's advise.

The first step I did was use the 14272 tool to remove the "nut". However, the nut is just too tight and I broke the plastic cross member using the tool.

How else can I remove it? And since the nut was broken, anyone know what the part is really called? Hope the attached pics helps.

Thank you
