I have purchased three new Moen 1222 cartridges (one from Amazon and two from Home Depot). The barrel of each is loose and easily slips out of the cartridge shell. I am not able to put the cartridge inside the valve so that the HC tab is flush against the valve to insert the pin. It is a tight fit to install the cartridge and requires some pressure. It appears the stem/barrel (inners) go all the way in and I am unable to get the shell to go in all the way to seed properly. I cannot put any pressure on the stem because it is already to the end of the valve end. I hope this makes sense.
The original Moen 1222 cartridge is from 2004. I was able to remove it complete with a puller. The valve is clean, free of debris, mineral deposits etc. and was flushed for about 30 seconds. Can anyone help me to figure out how to seed the cartridge properly? I called Moen to inquire about the loose inner barrel and Moen rep said it is not normal and cartridge needs to be returned. Tried a second, then third - all 3 same defect. Right out out of the packaging all three arrived with loose barrel and easily slips out of shell. Any thoughts? Is it me or just a fluke that I received three defective cartridges?
